Данный праздник также называют Днём африканской свободы и посвящают годовщине образования Организации африканского единства (Organization of African Unity), созданной 30 африканскими лидерами в Аддис-Абебе в 1963 году. По решению ООН день 25 мая объявлен Днём освобождения Африки и отмечается по инициативе ЮНЕСКО.

Happy Africa Day!
Every year on May 25, Africans and the rest of the world celebrate Africa Day to mark the determination of the people of Africa to liberate the continent from foreign domination and exploitation as well as the birth of the African Union.
V.I. Vernadsky Crimean Federal University has a long history of welcoming students from Africa. Over the years, many hundreds of African students have graduated from the University and gone on to pursue successful careers throughout the globe. There are currently 115 students from various African countries studying at Vernadsky CFU who are enrolled on a range of degree programmes, and we are delighted to welcome a new cohort of African students to our community every year.
The leadership of Vernadsky CFU would like to wish the University community a Happy Africa Day and send their most sincere wishes of stability, unity, growth and prosperity to Africa and its people.
